NBA Life-Behind the Scenes: Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry

Find it odd that Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry phoned into Matt's radio show to talk about Steven Tyler leaving the band?  Click 'Read more' below to find out more...

Our interview with Joe Perry has made some news, and I've been asked why was he on a sports show talking about Tyler leaving the band?

Well, we are a sports show, but really also a New Hampshire show. There aren't too many out there anymore. Number one; we talk sports and get a behind-the-scenes perspective from Matt on issues in sports. But, we also talk about what's going on in the state and promoting New Hampshire people and events.

Aerosmith formed at a place called "The Barn" in Sunapee. It was a hot night-spot in 1970 when Tyler met Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton who started as "The Jam Band" and then later became Aerosmith.

Joe is doing a solo gig on Friday night at Hampton Beach and it also appears that Aerosmith is planning on moving forward without Tyler as they near they're 40-year anniversary.

Here's the Q & A with Perry from last night's show.

Q: It's being reported that Steven Tyler has left Aerosmith, is that your knowledge of the situation as well?

A. Yeah, I've got the same information everybody does. I went online and saw that Steven had made a comment..and I guess that's it.

Q: Is it possible he would be replaced and the band would continue without him?

A: We've had a conversation with all the guys and I think everybody is just kind of taken back by the way he announced what he wanted to do. But, after the tour got cancelled, he just kept drifting off and doing other things. We would hear things from different people. He wasn't talking directly to anybody in the band. So basically, he just made the announcement that he was taking some time off. We've got a little bit of a window into what he's doing, but he really hasn't been part of the band for awhile, except on-stage.

Q: You guys haven't spoke since he fell off the stage in South Dakota and had concerns he wasn't taking care of himself. Just a couple of years ago you guys where real close and riding motorcycles together near Lake Sunapee. What happened?

A: I don't know. I really can't tell you. (Long pause) I really don't know. There's nothing personal between us. People will say, 'What about this feud between you and Steven.' Well, there isn't any. It's just strictly band business and I guess--I know as much as you do--he just decided to go off and do what he wants.

He could've been a little more civil to the four guys he's been working with for forty-years and actually said something to our face, but that's how he choose to do it and that's it.

There you have it...coming up soon a look inside the Yankees championship celebration.
